Highlighted industries are sectors that drive economic growth, innovation, and job creation. They often involve cutting-edge technologies, sustainable solutions.
In today’s competitive market, a product cannot sustain without proper quality checks and valid certification. A BIS license is required before selling many electrical products in India. To obtain BIS certification or approval and ensure compliance with prescribed quality requirements, manufacturers must follow the relevant Indian Standard applicable to the product.
An overview of the simplified IS 302 (Part 2 / Section 202) of electric stoves is given below.

This standard outlines the general and safety standards of electric stoves using a type of open heating element. These are stoves that would run on up to 250 volts, single-phase AC at 50 Hz or DC.
The standard covers electric shock protection, overheating/fire dangers, and safe, reliable functioning of the device.
Part 2 of IS 302 (Part 2 / Section 202) is not applicable to electric stoves that have more than a single heating unit. All tests should be done under high and strict conditions in accordance with the procedures outlined in the standard and performed in a well-maintained testing facility.
Marking must comply with the provisions of IS 302 (Part 2 / Section 202). Only after the product has passed all the requirements of the relevant Indian Standard can the ISI mark be affixed to the product.
Under the Product Certification Scheme, the Bureau of Indian Standards authorizes the use of the ISI mark only after verifying product compliance. A BIS license is mandatory for manufacturers wishing to use the ISI mark on electric stoves.
The BIS license is granted following a factory inspection that evaluates manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, quality control measures, and in-house testing capabilities.
For detailed information on the complete BIS ISI certification process, manufacturers may refer to:
In the situation that a product is subject to the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, all the manufacturers, importers, and foreign brands have to be granted the BIS ISI certification. The Bureau of Indian Standards can suspend or revoke the license in case the product does not meet the requirements outlined.
