The heaters in rooms fall into the category of IS 302 (Part 2 / Section 30), which lays down the safety requirements of the electric room heaters utilized in home and other related situations.
This section of the standard is concerned with the safety issues of electric radiators and room heaters. It does not deal with performance requirements, which are all dealt with under different standards.
Electric radiators usually have a type of heat-transfer fluid (typically oil) that boils when electric current is passed through the device. The fluid that is heated is evenly distributed, and the temperature is controlled by a thermostat to enable comfort. The application of this type of heater in homes is rife since its heating production is consistent and clean.

Room heaters must comply with all safety requirements specified in IS 302 (Part 2 / Section 30). Marking and labelling must follow the provisions of this standard.
The ISI mark may be applied only after the heater successfully passes all required tests. A BIS licence must be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards before using the ISI mark on any room heater.
If a product falls under the BIS certification scheme, all manufacturers, sellers, and importers must obtain BIS ISI approval. The licence may be suspended or cancelled if the product fails to meet prescribed safety requirements.
